Flagship
Healthcare
Event

Patient Flow Transformation is a leading healthcare event bringing together NHS leaders and digital innovators to explore how technology can reshape patient journeys and improve system-wide efficiency.

The project required the development of a scalable visual identity capable of supporting event branding, marketing collateral, digital content and on-site experiences. The goal was to create a modern and credible design system that could communicate complex healthcare transformation themes while engaging a diverse professional audience.

Project Overview

Patient Flow Transformation is a flagship healthcare event bringing together NHS leaders and digital innovators to improve how patients move through complex healthcare systems.

The problem

A lack of cohesive communication

As a large-scale healthcare event, Patient Flow Transformation needed
to communicate complex ideas around patient flow, system pressures,
and digital innovation to a diverse audience of NHS leaders, clinicians,
and stakeholders.

The 2023 event established a clear and important foundation, focusing
on how digital solutions could support resilience, collaboration, and the integration of care services across the NHS. However, while the messaging was well defined, it lacked a dedicated visual identity to express these ideas in a cohesive and memorable way.

For 2025, the narrative evolved, placing greater emphasis on improving staff experience, enhancing patient flow, and introducing a more human-centred perspective to digital transformation. This shift required a visual identity that could not only communicate complexity, but also reflect connection, movement, and clarity.

The challenge

Define and position from scratch

The challenge was to translate this evolving message into a cohesive visual system, one that could elevate communication, strengthen consistency across touch-points, and establish a recognisable foundation for future events. This required aligning messaging, visual identity, and content structure into a unified experience that felt credible, modern, and easy to understand.

Specifically, the work needed to:
• Establish a strong and recognisable visual identity for the event
• Translate complex patient flow concepts into clear, accessible messaging
• Create consistency across digital, print, and on-site materials
• Support engagement through clear hierarchy and visual storytelling
• Reinforce credibility with NHS stakeholders and decision-makers

The goal was to shift from fragmented communication to a cohesive, well-defined event experience, one that could clearly articulate the value of patient flow transformation and leave a lasting impression.

Design Direction

Visual Identity

The original identity was developed through a series of focused explorations, refining multiple directions into a single, cohesive visual mark. Each concept was rapidly iterated and evaluated, with careful attention
to form, balance, and the ability to convey movement and transformation.

Drawing inspiration from the hexagonal patterns within the existing dynamic graphic, the final identity centres around the concept of movement. The formation and transition of simple geometric shapes reflect the event’s focus on transformation, creating a visual language
that feels both structured and fluid.

Once aligned with the wider team, the identity was extended into motion, developing an animated version for use across event screens and digital touch-points.

The animation brings the concept of ‘patient flow’ to life through a continuous heartbeat line moving through the form. This clear visual connection to flow, in the context of patient journeys, became a defining feature of the identity and was recognised by the VitalHub team for its clarity and execution.

The Venue

Event Space

Situated within the iconic County Hall building on the South Bank of the River Thames the venue offered a stunning and prestigious setting with contemporary décor and a variety of ambient mood lighting. The event space served as the perfect backdrop to providing a level of sophistication which only helped enrich the overall experience.

Attention was given to maximise the social experience by placing popup banners through the main meeting area, each displaying partner content helping to invite further discussion between the breakout sessions.

Digital Presence

A series of looping motion graphics were developed for large-format displays, introducing a dynamic digital layer to the event. The content communicated
the agenda, key themes, and VitalHub’s patient flow solutions.

Inspired by the hexagonal visual language, flowing lines and transitions were used to express movement and continuity, culminating in an expanded view of the platform. The system was designed to scale across presentation intros and screens throughout the venue, creating a consistent and immersive experience.

Bringing the
narrative to life

This opening film was designed to set the tone for the event, highlighting the pressures facing the NHS while introducing
a more human perspective on digital transformation.
Combining narrative and motion, it moves from challenge to opportunity, reinforcing the theme of bringing human connection to a digital world and positioning VitalHub’s solutions within the context of improving patient flow and care delivery.

Distributed across LinkedIn and digital channels, the content supported product positioning, increased visibility, and helped communicate complex functionality in a simple, accessible format.

Brochures

Printed Collateral

The collateral was designed to enable delegates to receive insight into the dilemma‘s faced
by healthcare workers in relation to the patient flow management and how through the use of VitalHub’s potential solutions, could help care providers to alleviate these challenges. The main event brochure provided an introduction to the event with an agenda summary and speaker biographies. Smaller A5 booklets wereprovided to offer additional information about the event partners and VitalHub’s solutions. Towards the back of the booklet, a lined paper segment was made availablefor delegates to make notes from the day’s discussions.

Final Outcome

The 2025 Patient Flow Transformation event introduced a cohesive visual identity and motion system that elevated both the clarity and impact of communication across the entire experience. By aligning messaging with a consistent and expressive design language, the event was able to better communicate complex ideas around patient flow, digital transformation, and human-centred care.

The result was a more engaging and immersive environment, one that not only informed but also resonated with its audience, reinforcing the importance of connection within an increasingly digital healthcare landscape.

Outcome & Impact

The introduction of a unified visual identity strengthened the overall presence of the event, improving consistency across promotional materials, on-site experiences, and digital content.

The event successfully brought together leading voices in healthcare, sparking meaningful conversations around the challenges and opportunities within patient flow management. The design approach helped translate complex ideas into clear, accessible narratives, supporting engagement across a diverse audience of NHS stakeholders.

The success of the event was reflected in continued interest and momentum, with early engagement for future events
and increased visibility of VitalHub UK’s patient flow solutions within the healthcare space.

My Contribution

This project was completed while working as a Senior Designer at VitalHub UK. My role focused on defining the visual identity and motion language for the Patient Flow Transformation event.

Key contributions included:

• Visual identity and logo development
• Concept exploration and refinement
• Motion design and animated identity system

• Design of event screen content and presentation assets
• Video production and social media content
• Implementation of a consistent design system across all touch-points

Design Learnings

This project reinforced the importance of aligning visual identity with strategic messaging, particularly when communicating complex ideas within healthcare.

It highlighted the value of motion as a tool for storytelling, helping to simplify abstract concepts such as patient flow
and transformation. The project also demonstrated how a well-defined design system can create consistency across multiple touch-points, improving both clarity and engagement.

Ultimately, the work emphasised the role of design in bridging complexity and human experience, ensuring that digital transformation remains grounded in real-world impact.
